Flame of the Phoenix by N.J. Walters

Blurb:
There’s enough heat between them to send them both up in flames.
Hades’ Carnival, Book 6

Tilly Ledet has long been a friend of the immortal, shape-shifting warriors who follow the Lady of the Beasts, a willing helper in their battle against Hades. But now that Hades is free and unable to touch the warriors, Tilly is fair game.

When Phoenix shows up insisting she drop everything to go into hiding, Tilly balks. Phoenix is strong and courageous, but when she imagines being in his arms, the protective barriers guarding her heart slam down.

For the first time in his immortal life, Phoenix feels fear. Not for himself, but for the woman whose beauty and forthright nature heat both his mind and body. While one kiss easily ignites her passion, claiming her as his own will take more than heat.

It may require a sacrifice that could send them both up in flames.
Warning: This steamy love story may cause overheating and the possibility of bursting into flames. Read at your own risk.

 My Review: 5 STARS!!

Flame of the Phoenix is book 6 in N.J. Walter's phenomenal Hades' Carnival series. Tilly Ledet's best friend Jessica (Heart of the Serpent) has a death curse placed on her by Hades. Since Hades is unable to directly lash out at the warriors or their mates he has decided to target anyone that they care about instead. Fearing for Tilly, Phoenix rushes to her side determined to get her to a safe place so he can protect her. Tilly is headstrong and doesn't want to run but realizing that she can do nothing to help Jessica she agrees to go into hiding with Phoenix.

The chemistry between these two is intense! Phoenix wants Tilly for forever but she is resistant to opening her heart completely to him. Tilly grew up with an abusive father and understandably has some serious trust issues when it comes to relationships and men but Phoenix is determined to break down her walls and claim her heart.

I love when a book is emotionally intense and yet still sweet at the same time. As much as Phoenix wanted Tilly he was so patient with her and her feelings. Tilly was scared of the intensity of her emotions but when the time came she faced her fears. Love, love, love characters with that kind of inner strength. You have problems, you know it and you deal with it.

Phoenix was the perfect hero, he knew what he wanted, how he felt and was determined to win Tilly's heart. He also was going to protect his woman at any cost, even if that meant letting her walk away from him. *sighs* BEST. HERO. EVER.

We also get to see a glimpse of another side to Hades that almost, and I stress, ALMOST, makes me feel a teeny, tiny bit sorry for him. I have to say that now I'm curious to see if he can be redeemed after all of his horrific actions. Hmm... yeah, I do love the anti-heroes. *hint hint N.J.* :)

N.J. Walters can write some seriously sexy PNR! For a fast paced read full of passion, action and engaging characters, I highly recommend Flame of the Phoenix!

*I received a copy from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
